[Maui, Hawaii – July 30, 2025] – A tsunami warning has been issued for Maui and surrounding areas in Hawaii following a strong offshore earthquake recorded in the Pacific Ocean early this afternoon. The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) and Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) have confirmed that the earthquake had the potential to generate dangerous tsunami waves that could impact coastal communities within the hour.

According to PTWC, the earthquake struck approximately 120 miles southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor triggered immediate alerts to all islands, with Maui County placed on high alert due to its vulnerable coastal zones.
